PAS has shortlisted six candidates to be fielded in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar parliamentary by-elections next month, said its vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.
He said the names of the six candidates, three for each by-election, had also been submitted to the Dewan Ulama before being finalised by the party's top leadership in its meeting on Sunday.
"The candidates have mixed backgrounds, but all of them are locals aged between 40 and 60," Mohd Amar, who is Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar, said this after opening the state-level Forest Day 2016 celebration at Maahad Tahfiz Sains Tanah Merah here today.
Also present were Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department deputy director (Policy and Planning) Datuk Nor Akhirrudin Mahmud, Kelantan State Secretary Datuk Mohd Faudzi Che Mamat and Kelantan Forestry Department director Zahari Ibrahim.
The parliamentary seats of Sungai Besar in Selangor, and Kuala Kangsar in Perak, fell vacant following the death of incumbents, Datuk Noriah Kasnon and Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak, on May 5.
The Election Commission had announced that the by-elections would be held simultaneously on June 18, while the nomination day on June 5.
