PAS will uphold its earlier decision not to join Pakatan Harapan as DAP and Parti Amanah Negara were part of the opposition coalition, said PAS vice-president, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.
“At the moment, I must emphasise that we still can’t see eye-to-eye with Bersatu -- no agreement was achieved at the official meeting recently. It is, however uncertain if PAS would retain all its seats – regardless if we win or lose – the Pakatan pact must achieve a consensus when it comes to the number of seats competing,” said Mohd Amar.
He added that the decision not to join the coalition was the main reason why PAS is keen to form a third political block.
“We believe that the other political parties will join us, we have rejected Pakatan Harapan and there seemed to be no room for PAN and DAP,” said Mohd Amar to reporters here on Tuesday.
Yesterday, the three parties under the Harapan umbrella – PKR, DAP and Amanah – agreed to form an opposition coalition with Bersatu before the 14th General Election in their quest to form a government after the elections.
Mohd Amar also stressed that PAS is not discounting the possibility to cooperate with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) despite its decision to not join Pakatan Harapan to face GE14.
If it happens, he said the new party would face a political dilemma.
DAP and PKR, said Mohd Amar have their seats retained in their respective Parliamentary for GE14, while Bersatu and Amanah would have to share and expect distribution of seats from DAP and PKR.
PAS on the other hand, he said has secured its own seats and the part is poised to retain the seats it had gained at the last general election.
At present, PAS Elections Committee is conducting a research to determine the seats by DAP or if PAS would nominate its candidates in GE14.
Mohd Amar also stressed that PAS has no intention to join UMNO although observers have lauded their strong relations, of late.
PAS’ rival in Kelantan is UMNO and PAS will continue to put up a fight with UMNO in GE14.
“If the oppositions are serious in defeating UMNO, Pakatan Harapan should provide the space and not place their candidates in Kelantan,” said Mohd Amar.
