PAU 2020: Celebrate differences of opinion, don't break up into tribes - Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO President, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today reminded the grassroots to celebrate differences of opinion and should not be a source of division in the party.

In his latest post on Facebook, the Member of Parliament for Bagan Datuk said all parties should take heed of how divisions and quarrels among themselves, ultimately resulted in the fall of the government of the past.

He added that all parties must always remember that in politics, the enemy will come on its own without having to be sought, either from within or outside the party.

"Whatever that comes, provide the best service for the people. The people really miss the services of UMNO and Barisan Nasional.

"Our opponents have never been strong. We lose because we ourselves are weak and divided.

“In the time that remains, let’s fix this weakness. We can disagree and we celebrate it. Don’t let differences of opinion result in tribes among us,” he added.

In the meantime, Ahmad Zahid said, even though UMNO's ship almost sank due to the tsunami of the 14th General Election (GE14), however, it needs to continue to be steered until it reaches its destination.

He stressed that it is the responsibility of the leadership and the grassroots to continue to fix the anchor and patch the leaks of the ship.

Ahmad Zahid said the ship would then have to be re-sailed, along with leaders and individuals whom he described as friends who remained loyal, even though some of them were still young.

“It is often heard the opinions of as many people who like us, as well as those who do not. In such a situation, even if the captain changes, the ship being steered will inevitably be attacked.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the GE-14 tsunami almost sank this UMNO ship. We fixed the anchor and patched up the leaks of the UMNO ship that almost sank.

"We sail again with friends who are still loyal to the destination of victory. Even though some of the friends are still young, we are together to sail through the big waves," he added.
