KUALA LUMPUR: The 2020 UMNO General Assembly (PAU 2020) this weekend is a critical arena for the grassroots to speak transparently and sincerely, especially on matters related to the party's survival and future, said Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
According to the Sembrong UMNO division head, the assembly is a forum to close ranks, strengthen unity and jointly define a clear direction for the stability and future of the biggest Malay party.
He added that the assembly must also be able to highlight the stability of UMNO at every level based on the spirit of togetherness; undivided loyalty to the party; as well as loyalty to the party leadership, especially the institution of the president.
"Stability is important if we want Umno to be believed as the best institution to lead the country and is seen as a party that is sincere in maintaining the agenda of Malay-Muslim unity.
“Stability will also determine the ups and downs of UMNO in the next election.
“It is also stability that UMNO can offer to the people based on its long experience,” said the former UMNO vice-president in a statement on Thursday.
PAU 2020 will open its curtains this Friday and for the first time the assembly will be held in a combination of face-to-face and virtual, to comply with standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the National Security Council.
Earlier, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the UMNO Wanita, Pemuda and Puteri Assembly would be officiated by the party's deputy president, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan at Dewan Merdeka on March 27.
Meanwhile, the opening ceremony of PAU 2020 by UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be on March 28 at 8.30 am at Dewan Merdeka.
Hishammuddin said the union of Malay Muslims fought by UMNO alongside the determination to defend the other races would not only ensure the future stability of UMNO, but must be maintained to chart a future of Malaysia to greater heights.
“Therefore, during the conference, discuss with wisdom and prudence.
“Put full trust in the wisdom of the Supreme Working Council and the top leadership to lead the party towards the stability that we desperately need now,” he added.
