KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO must take the opportunity to re-highlight Barisan Nasional (BN) as the people’s government of choice in the 15th General Election (GE15) after the failure of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government and the incompetence of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
According UMNO Deputy President, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, it has opened the eyes of the people that only BN can manage the country and ensure political stability.
"The people have witnessed the failure of 22 months of PH rule. Now, the people are seeing the incompetence and slowness of the PN in managing the country.
"Although UMNO is part of the PN government, UMNO's role is very isolated and not dominant.
“We are more submissive than standing up to take the lead, more so with UMNO's clear stance not to join the PN from the beginning.
"Being aware or not, these scenarios actually provide a unique opportunity to highlight the BN again as the people’s choice of government, whether among Malays or non-Malays," he said.
In fact, Mohamad explained, BN's performance as a government for more than 60 years was much better and successful, thus benefiting the people.
On the other hand, he said, political cooperation through PH or PN was clearly not able to match the BN formula implemented previously.
"We have not seen any indication that political cooperation such as PH or PN, can translate the BN formula that we had implemented.
"So, the people can actually be convinced that BN must be returned immediately to rule for the prosperity of Malaysia," he added in his speech at the opening of the Wanita, Pemuda and Puteri conference in conjunction with the 2020 UMNO General Assembly here today.
