The High Court here today ordered Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to pay RM500,000 to Teluk Air Tawar representative Datuk Jahara Hamid for defaming her with a "nenek rasis" (racist grandmother) label.
Jahara's counsel Datuk Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunos said when contacted that judicial commissioner Datuk Nordin Hassan also ordered Lim to pay RM40,000 to the plaintiff at five per cent interest per annum from the judgement date.
He said the court further ordered Lim who is also DAP secretary general to withdraw the label against Jahara and granted the plaintiff's application for an injunction to restrain the defendant from repeating it.
In 2014, Jahara filed the suit alleging that Lim had on Dec 10, 2013 slandered her in a press conference outside the Penang State Legislative Assembly by referring to her as nenek rasis.
It is understood that Lim, who was represented by Datuk N. Mureli would appeal against the decision.
