The issue of demolishing the Penang UMNO signage should be solved according to the law, said UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
"We are in a country with laws, no matter if it is UMNO or DAP, we have to adhere to the law. Do not take the law into your own hands. So if they (UMNO or DAP) do not follow the law, action will be taken by the authorities," he told reporters after attending the national-level 'Ramadan al-Mubarak' programme at
the National Mosque, here Sunday.
The programme was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. Tengku Adnan, who is also Federal Territories Minister, said in the Federal Territories, namely Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, owners of premises are required to apply for permit to erect signboards.
Tengku Adnan said if the application was not successful, those who have erected the signage would be given two weeks to tear them down.
However, Tengku Adnan said he was not fully aware of what had unfolded in Penang.
On Friday, the Penang City Council (MBPP) enforcement officers tried to demolish the UMNO signage erected at the entrance of the Menara UMNO building on Jalan Macalister, George Town.
