Pengkalan Kubor needs an assemblyman with the advantage of having a close relationship with the federal government for effective development implementation in this state constituency.
MCA deputy president Datuk Wee Ka Siong said in this context, only the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the upcoming Pengkalan Kubor by-election, Mat Razi Mat Ail, could carry out that responsibility.
"In terms of issues raised by the opposition, these have no sting... as this by-election is more about who can do an effective job as an elected representative for the area.
"We need someone who has an advantage at the federal level while at the same time, does a check and balance at the state level," he said after attending a dinner function with the Siamese community, here, last night.
Therefore, he said, the voters in Pengkalan Kubor should think deeply on this matter and make a wise decision when casting their votes this Thursday.
Wee, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said one factor which the voters should seriously consider was development consistency that could be brought by Mat Razi if he was elected at their representative.
In the by-election, Mat Razi will be challenged by PAS candidate Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim and an Independent, Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
It is being held following the death of the incumbent assemblyman, Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar of BN, from liver cancer on Aug 20.
