KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO is expected to hold an emergency meeting tomorrow night, believed to discuss the political crisis in Perak.
According to a Sinar Harian report citing sources within UMNO, the Political Bureau meeting is also understood to discuss issues related to the position of the Federal government as a whole.
It will be held at Menara Dato Onn, Putra World Trade Centre (WTC) here at 8.30 pm Monday.
Earlier, UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) did not rule out the possibility of a new political alignment in Perak in line with the political crisis that hit the state.
However, UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he hoped the current government under the leadership of the last Menteri Besar could be maintained.
Ahmad Zahid said UMNO and BN will look at all possibilities, including working with the parties in Pakatan Harapan (PH).
The state's political turmoil began after Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu failed to gain the support of the majority of state assemblymen in a motion of confidence in him submitted at the state assembly sitting last Friday.
In the bloc voting conducted, Ahmad Faizal who is also the Bersatu deputy president and Chenderiang assemblyman, only garnered 10 votes compared to 48 rejecting while one abstained.
The Perak State Legislative Assembly consists of 25 BN state assemblymen, all from UMNO, DAP (16), Amanah (5), Bersatu (5), PKR (3) and PAS (3), while Gerakan and Bebas each have one seat.
