Perak Politics: UMNO submits name of MB candidate, Ahmad Zahid optimistic of sufficient majority

IPOH:UMNO is optimistic that the new Perak Menteri Besar candidate from the party has the majority support.

Its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he was confident that the support garnered was more than enough.

"That is what we have presented.

"I am very confident that the majority of support is more than enough," he said.

Ahmad Zahid was called for an audience with the Sultan of Perak and arrived at Istana Kinta here at about 9.50 am, followed by Perak UMNO Liaison Committee Chairman, Datuk Saarani Mohamad a few minutes later.

During the audience which lasted more than 30 minutes, Ahmad Zahid presented the name of the Menteri Besar candidate from UMNO for Sultan Nazrin's consideration.

If Sultan Nazrin was satisfied and consented to appoint the individual, it is likely that the 14th Perak Menteri Besar Oath Taking Ceremony will take place at Istana Islandariah, Kuala Kangsar this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

Saarani, the Kota Tampan State Assemblyman (ADUN), was said to be among the individuals who will occupy the 14th Perak Menteri Besar seat.

Earlier, all 25 Perak UMNO assemblymen had by consensus named him as the new Menteri Besar candidate.

However, the confirmation and details regarding the names of the Menteri Besar candidates will only be known after the palace issues an official statement.
