Perak State Assembly convenes tomorrow, adjournment motion will be made - Speaker

IPOH: The Perak State Assembly (DUN) which is scheduled to resume tomorrow still needs to convene because a decision has been made previously.

However, Speaker Datuk Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid said the State Assembly sitting which will start at 2.30 pm will only approve the motion for the meeting to be adjourned to another date as there is no menteri besar and at least four members of the State Executive Council (Exco) have yet to be appointed until today.

"I have two options. If I adjourn to a reasonable next date, I can schedule it myself as I did at the last meeting, I set the date and time.

"But if the situation requires more time, perhaps I will invite the members to bring a motion for the House to be adjourned to a date to be set," he told Astro AWANI on Tuesday.

Mohamad Zahir added that the adjournment of the House will be done under Meeting Rule 80 of the Perak State Assembly.

Regarding the papers and reports that have been given notice to the House, it can still be tabled without debate tomorrow, he said.

Based on the original schedule, the State Assembly session will last for five days starting last Friday with the presentation of the state Budget 2021 before resuming today (Tuesday) until this Friday.

However, following the political turmoil that broke out last Friday, Mohamad Zahir postponed the conference until this Wednesday.

Last Friday, the sitting should have started with an oral question and answer session before being followed by the presentation of the state budget by Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

However, the Speaker allowed the tabling of the 'Assemblymen’s Confidence in the Menteri Besar' motion brought by Datuk Abd Manap Hashim (BN-Pengkalan Baru) which saw Ahmad Faizal lost the support of the majority with a vote of 10-48 while one abstained.

According to the Standing Order, the new Menteri Besar must give notice to the State Assembly to resume the conference within 14 days after his appointment and the conference can only start after two weeks of the notice being received by the DUN.
