KUALA LUMPUR: Perhaps it is time for the President of Parti Pribumi Malaysia (Bersatu), Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and all members of the party to come back together and unite under UMNO.
The view was voiced by UMNO Youth Chief, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki who stressed that the policies, orientation, approach and ideology of the two parties are no different because they come from the same 'womb'.
According to him, if one were to look back at the initial objective of Bersatu being established, it refers more to the dissatisfaction and anger of individuals in the UMNO leadership.
“The goal as the former Bersatu chairman, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad mentioned before, establishing Bersatu is to bring down UMNO because it is led by a leader who is stuck in corruption and kleptocracy.
"So when the leader is gone and the government has fallen, today we rise again together. What happened before, many of the things are no longer relevant," he said in a Skype interview with Astro AWANI on Sunday.
He was commenting on Muhyiddin's statement on Saturday calling on all leaders of the Malays and Muslims to unite in a great assembly under the Perikatan Nasional (PN).
He added that if the union was to be realized, it can soften and pacify members at all levels and the Malays.
"Finally, when we want to move forward, we must look with a big soul, remove the ego that shackles ourselves, bury the past and dark history that still haunts us and take steps together to illustrate a new history to fulfil the true image of the country today.
"The foundation must be built on Malay parentage factor that is integral to the stability and strength of the country.
"I believe if we can find such a formula, all other races in the country's plural society will benefit," he said.

Dr Asyraf Wajdi stressed that the Malay party can not be separated and divided into many as it would lead to a framework that would become loose and weak.
Muhyiddin, in the annual general assembly of Bersatu on Saturday said: "It would be nice if all the leaders of the Malays and Muslims in this country can be united in a great assembly, compared to being fragmented in small tribes that weaken us.
"Yes, if we only think of the interests of ourselves, our group, our party, then forever we will become divided.
"The call for Malay unity, unity of the ummah will be just rhetoric. Malay unity will always remain an elusive dream. It will never materialize in our lifetime, "he said.
He added that Bersatu and UMNO used to be political enemies in the 14th General Election (GE14) but were destined to be allies until the establishment of PN.
