Perkasa members can join Tun M's party - Ibrahim Ali
IBRAHIM: Perkasa has yet to decide which party to root for in the next general election, the group is waiting to see what unfolds in the near future.
Any member of Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa) can join and support Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's new political party if they want, Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali said.
He said the Malay right-wing group's rules did not restrict its members to join any political party.
Ibrahim said he believed the new party might even gain traction, especially from the 40 percent of the Malaysians who are fence-sitters.
"Based on my observation of the current political situation, 40 percent of the Malaysian population are still undecided, and if Tun Mahathir Mohamad and (Tan Sri) Muhyiddin Yassin can really address the rakyat's issues, they may win the support," he told Astro AWANI today.
Ibrahim said with Perkasa having 700,000 registered members nationwide, the NGO's stand could influence and impact voters' decision.
However, he said Perkasa has yet to decide on who to root for in the next general election (GE), adding that he would "wait and see".
"We are looking for parties that are in line with what we fight for. If that party fights for Islam and Malay rights, we will support."
Ibrahim has been reportedly seen with Dr Mahathir on several occasions recently, including the Citizens' Declaration's event, which got several quarters raising questions if the former Pasir MAS MP would be siding with the ex-premier in the next GE.
