Politics based on race and ethnicity can lead to unity of the people and country.

This was the view given by Youth and Sports Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin who said racial politics had its own positive and negative aspects.

“We should define racial politics. Some use this kind of politics to create chaos within races.

“However, there is also racial politics which is aimed at taking care of a community's welfare. This is not wrong,” said Khairy who was met at Astro AWANI, here.

He explained that the negative aspects of racial politics which causes chaos among one another should not be practised.

“As long as the interest of the community does not conflict with the country’s harmony, then it is not wrong, but I feel politics which only shows the selfishness of an individual should not be allowed,” said Khairy.

He added that another aspect which should be stopped is the act of insulting and belittling a race and religion.

“We should stop extremists who promote political hatred. There are two ways of doing this.

“The first is to have laws which clearly disallows different ethnic and religious insult as we are a sensitive community and second, is that the people should condemn and reject all type of derogatory remarks,” said Khairy.
