MAH: Abdul Khalid should be given a chance to overcome the state's issues such as dengue and water problems
Gerakan President Datuk Mah Siew Keong today proposed that Selangor holds a state election if the issue on changing the Selangor Menteri Besar fails to be resolved.
"At the moment, I see that Selangor needs to make a choice whether to keep Abdul Khalid as the Menteri Besar, or to hold a state election so the people can choose who is eligible for the post," he told reporters after officiating a Kedah Gerakan delegation meeting here.
He said the party saw the need for Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to remain as Selangor Menteri Besar to continue solving problems faced by residents.
Selangor has been facing dengue and water problems lately and Abdul Khalid should be given a chance to overcome these issues, he said.
"I worry that the change will affect negotiations for the restructuring of water supply services in the state and we don't want the Langat 2 Dam project to be disturbed.
"This problem does not need to be politicised because what's important is to solve the water shortage faced by Selangor residents," he said.
Recently, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the Pakatan Rakyat leadership council, which met on July 20, received a suggestion to replace Abdul Khalid and nominated the party's president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, to fill his spot.
However, the suggestion did not get much support from PAS leaders, while PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and PAS spiritual leader, Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, voiced their support for Abdul Khalid saying he must remain until the term ends.
