Put aside political differences for sake of Muslim community - DPM

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said small differences can escalate into a conflict like what is happening in Syria.

"We will find common ground. This can be achieved if there is political will on the part of the government, non-governmental organisations (NGO) or those outside the sphere," he said at the Legal and Political Conference of the Muslim Consultative Council (MCC), here today.

Meanwhile, Zahid said the non-Muslims should respect the rights of Muslims in this country to determine the mould of Islam.

"Please learn to respect what we (Muslims) have and we will respect those of other faith. "For the Muslims, it is unreasonable to ask people of other faith about the correct way of taking ablution or performing prayers," he added.

Eight legal resolutions were presented at the conference, including to correct perceptions about the position of Islam in Malaysia, enhance the Malay rulers institution and enhance Islamic laws at federal and state level.

Nine political resolutions presented include to check the split of political power among the Muslims in this country.
