PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad wants PAS president to retract his statement that Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is not qualified to become Selangor MB.

Nik Nazmi said Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s statement was improper as the PKR president’s name has been nominated and endorsed in both the PAS and Pakatan Rakyat meetings.

“Dr Wan Azizah had led the PKR since 1999 and became the Opposition leader in 2008, which was also endorsed by the PAS president,” he said in a press statement today.

He said Dr Wan Azizah has also earned a name for herself by forming a multi-racial political party -- responsible in providing opportunities to many women to become leaders at various levels.

“I urge the PAS president to respect the PR’s Leaders Council and PAS central committee’s decision and retract his statement,” he said.

On Friday, Abdul Hadi said PAS’ rejection of Dr Wan Azizah as the MB candidate is solely due to her inability to shoulder the post and has nothing to do with her gender.

“If she doesn’t have the ability to answer questions or debate in Parliament or the State Legislative Assembly, how can she become a leader? This cannot be the case. She has not met these conditions and therefore she is not qualified to be a leader,” he said during a dialogue session held in Rusila, Marang.
