Rompin by-election: Voting begins, BN candidate among the earliest to cast vote

The Rompin by-election will witness a straight fight between Hasan and Ahmad Nazri of PAS to fill the vacancy following the death of incumbent Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis.
The voting process for the Rompin parliamentary seat by-election began at 8am today with 38 polling centers opened for voters to cast their votes.
Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Hasan Arifin is among the earliest to cast his vote at Sekolah Kebangsaan Leban Chondong while PAS candidate Ahmad Nazri had cast his vote at Sekolah Agama Rakyat LKTP Keratong 5.
Several roads were also closed for the by-election. Police sources said the roads closed include Jalan Utama Kuantan – Johor Bahru, in front of Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah.
The road was closed at 8pm yesterday and will be open in stages until the voting and counting process are over.

In the last general election, Jamaluddin, who was also chairman of the 1Malaysia People's Housing (PR1MA) scheme retained the seat he had held for 23 years after defeating former PAS Central Women's chief Nuridah Mohd Salleh with a 15,114 vote-majority.

The polling centers will be closed at 5pm and results will be announced tonight.
There are 53,294 voters in Rompin.
