UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah should not have attended the Pakatan 2.0 round table meeting held to finalise the formation of the new opposition coalition.
"According to Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Megat Khas (UMNO Discipline Tribunal chairman), based on his observation, there is nothing wrong for any UMNO member to attend any function organised by other parties, but to me personally it shouldn't happen that way," he told reporters after a bilateral meeting with Indonesia's Manpower and Transmigration Minister Hanif Dhakiri here, today.
However, Ahmad Zahid said Megat Najmuddin needed to explain to the UMNO Supreme Council on his stand on the matter.
"He (Megat Najmuddin) has to answer to the Supreme Council as to why he decided otherwise," he said.
Saifuddin, who is former UMNO Supreme Council member, attended the meeting held on Sept 22, which was also attended by PKR president Datin Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu.
Saifuddin said he had attended the function in his personal capacity as the Youth Academy chairman.
