Sarawak polls: Pas unveils first non-Muslim candidate

A non-Muslim candidate and a woman candidate will be among 11 Pas candidates that will be fielded by the opposition party in the 11th Sarawak state election.
Its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang when announcing the names, said five of them were aged 35 and below, and came from various backgrounds including professionals, pensioners, entrepreneurs and former civil servants.
Sarawak Pas Supporters' Congress (DHPP) chief, Clement Bayang, 59, will be contesting at the N60 Kakus seat.
Clement is a former Iban singer and the first non-Muslim candidate in the state.
Meanwhile, the party's sole woman candidate for the state, Hamidah Mokhtar will be contesting at the Beting Maro seat.
The 26-year-old is the Sarawak Pas women's wing secretary and degree holder from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP).
Abdul Hadi also named the other nine candidates to contest for the Sarawak state elections.
They are Sarawak Pas commissioner, Jofri Jaraiee (Pujut); Sarawak Pas Youth chief, Mohammad Arifiriazul Paijo (Lambir); Sarawak Pas, deputy youth chief Zharudin Narudin (Samalaju); Sarawak Pas information chief, Kiprawi Aman (Jepak); Sebuyau Pas activist, Ustaz Wan Abdillah Wan Ahmad (Sebuyau); Sarawak Pas deputy commissioner 3, Asan Singkro (Sadong Jaya); Sarawak Pas treasurer, Zulkipli Ramzi (Muara Tuang); Petrajaya Pas Ulama coordinator, Ustaz Yusof Assidiqqi Ahmad Sharkawi (Samariang); and Zainal Abidin Yet (Pantai Damai).
