Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem hopes that the state's Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties will field women candidates in the coming state election.
He said there had been calls for women candidates to be fielded in the election.
"There is a request of course from the ladies ... I'm thinking of fielding candidates from the Youth and Women's wings, if we have suitable candidates.
"I always appreciate it if other component parties other than PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu) field their women candidates. As far as I know, except for SUPP's Lily Yong, (there were) none from any other component parties.
"I hope they can come up with someone this time."
Adenan was speaking at a press conference at the dinner event for the Sarawak BN Women machinery with the Chief Minister and National Wanita BN head, here, last night.
Also present were national Wanita BN head Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, Sarawak BN Women chief Puan Sri Empiang Jabu as well heads of the women's wings of BN component parties.
Meanwhile, Shahrizat said the women's wing respected Adenan's leadership as chief minister and chairman of Sarawak BN.
She also said the Sarawak BN Women's machinery was the most organised of all.
Shahrizat also expressed confidence that Sarawak, under Adenan's leadership, would emerge victorious in the coming state election.
"I want to congratulate Puan Sri (Empiang) because Sarawak BN is lucky as there are women members who are ministers in the state and federal cabinets," she said.
