SAUDI Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said on Monday (October 12) that the events of recent weeks were serious and the kingdom's response must be "equally serious," as Yemen's Houthis step up attacks on the kingdom, killing more than 15 people in two weeks.

"There can be no energy future for all without energy security for all. Energy security and energy transition must advance together," said Prince Abdulaziz as he spoke during the opening ceremony at the WPC Energy Congress in Riyadh.

Several top energy executives were dropped from the schedule of the congress, as Saudi authorities pressed ahead with the event despite deadly attacks on the capital claimed by the Houthis.

The chief executives of ExxonMobil, TotalEnergies, Shell, Chevron and BP had all been expected at the event, which began on Sunday (October 11), but were no longer on the agenda conference organizers released early Monday.
