PAS members in Selangor have been urged to give priority to retaining the ulama leadership in the party elections at the PAS general assembly in June.
Selangor PAS commissioner, Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad said this principle should prevail as the ulama leadership had been the foundation of the party's struggle all this while, a point agreed upon by PAS leaders at the party's muktamar (general assembly) since 1982.
"There are two interpretations of the PAS ulama leadership - that the ulama lead the party or the spirit of ulama leadership is brought into the (party's) administration," he said when met by reporters at the lobby of the State Legislative Assembly building, here, Tuesday.
He was asked whether Selangor PAS members wanted Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, from the ulama group, to be retained as PAS president at the party elections in June, or otherwise.
Iskandar, who is also a state executive councillor, said Selangor PAS left it to the party divisions in the state to submit the names of suitable candidates for the central leadership posts.
Asked whether he would contest for a party vice-president post at the coming PAS elections, Iskandar said so far, he had no such intention.
