Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has advised MIC to solve its internal crisis politically and not through legal means.
“Political matters must be resolved through political means,” he said commenting on the judicial review against the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
“If an agreement had been made to hold a re-election, then stick to it. That is the democratic way,” he said adding that the Barisan Nasional and ROS will send observers during the re-election.
He said the Home Ministry does not want to get involved in the party’s internal crisis following the irregularities found in its 2013 party elections.
“How are you going to solve the problems in the Indian community if you cannot even take care of your own party problem,” he asked.
Yesterday, MIC’s strategic director AK Ramalingam filed a judicial review in court, seeking the ROS and its director-general Mohammad Razin Abdullah, to retract directives sent to the MIC.
He filed the ex-parte application for the court to set aside directives from the RoS to ask the MIC to conduct fresh election for three vice presidents and 23 CWC positions.
The judicial review was filed at the High Court here through Messrs Selvam Shanmugam & Partners.
Last Dec 5, the RoS had directed MIC to hold re-elections for three vice-president and 23 CWC posts within 90 days, following irregularities in the elections held in 2013.
