Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today announced special allocation for the Indian community here, including RM100,000 for upgrading the wall of SJKT Ghandi Memorial.
"The Board of Governors has sought assistance of RM100,000 to build a 25-foot high stone wall for the safety of students," said Najib, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, when opening the school field today.
SJKT Ghandi Memorial was also given 0.6 hectares of land adjacent to the building for use as playing field.
Also present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong and Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
Najib also announced an allocation of RM750,000 to the Indian Association of Kuala Kangsar for a new building.
"I also approved an allocation of RM115,000 to repair fences, pave the road and repair the crematorium in Jalan Sultan Iskandar Shah."
Najib had urged the Perak state government to immediately solve the housing problem in Bukit Merchu involving 20 Indian families.
In his speech, the prime minister hopes the Indian community will support the BN candidate Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid in the Kuala Kangsar by-election.
The by-election on June 18 was called following the death of Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad in a helicopter crash in Sarawak on May 5.
It is a four-cornered fight between Mastura (widow of Wan Mohd Khair-il), Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad (PAS), Prof Dr Ahmad Termizi (Amanah) and Izzat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary (independent).
