Street demo culture alien - Salleh
SALLEH: Do not be influenced by this culture. This is alien to our political culture. Street demonstrations do not solve problems.
The holding of street demonstrations is not a Malaysian political culture, what more if it is aimed at interfering with the democratic process of the country, says Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Salleh Said Keruak.
He reminded the people not to be taken in by the plan of certain parties to hold the so-called 'Bersih 4.0 Assembly' at the end of this month.
"Do not be influenced by this culture. This is alien to our political culture. Street demonstrations do not solve problems.
"They are aimed at inciting the people into rebelling. This is not our practice," he told reporters after participating in a cycling programme held in conjunction with the 2015 Month of Independence here today.
Commenting further, Salleh said the country's democratic process enabled the people to choose any political party as the ruling party, apart from being free to express views against the government.
Political activities should be carried out in a gentlemanly manner, as there are 'on season' and 'off season', he said, referring to election season and the period after the process had been settled.
"During off season, we carry out our work. The government goes to work, the opposition also works, the NGOs (non-governmental organisations) also go to work.
"But do not go to the extent of planting a new culture as it will not ensure unity and our political stability," he added.
