DR MAHATHIR: If Syed Saddiq only goes to young people, it will be quite difficult for him to succeed. - Astro AWANI / SHAHIR OMAR
Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman's youth-centric party will not succeed.
The view was voiced by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who opined that every political party should have a combination of old and young.
According to him, although the percentage of young people among the electorate is large, it is still not enough for them to clinch the votes in an area.
"In my area, there will be old people and there will be young people. We will go to the young people too.
"If he (Syed Saddiq) only goes to the young people, it is quite difficult for him to succeed. But this is an independent country, he wants to do it himself.
"He used to be a strong supporter of Pakatan Harapan (PH), and now, he feels the need to move apart from us," he said at a press conference at Yayasan Kepimpinan Perdana, here, today.
Recently, Syed Saddiq who is Muar Member of Parliament confirmed that he will not join the Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) formed by Dr Mahathir.
Instead, according to the former head of Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (ARMADA) Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), he will form a new political party.
He explained that the new party will be joined by various races by focusing on young people.
