Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has confirmed that he will not join the Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) formed by former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
According to the former Minister of Youth and Sports, he will instead form a new political party.
The former head of Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (ARMADA) of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) explained that the new party will be joined by various races by focusing on young people.
"If in Thailand they can set up Future Forward, in France they can set up Mr Marche under Emmanuel Macron, I believe it's time to set up a movement made up of young people in Malaysia.
"From technocrats, professionals to young politicians from various backgrounds to unite in ensuring that the voice of the youth dominates Parliament and outside Parliament, finally the youth can no longer be taken lightly.
"It is time for politics not to be controlled and monopolized by the same people," Syed Saddiq was quoted, in an interview with Channel NewsAsia.
Earlier, Syed Saddiq participated in a motorcycle convoy to campaign for the independent candidate supported by Pejuang in the Slim by-election, Amir Khusyairi Mohamad Tanusi.
On Wednesday, the Pejuang party founded by Dr Mahathir was officially registered and used the Jawi letter ‘Pa’ as the logo.
Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir who will assume the role of party president explained, the 'blue pantone' logo also has three dots which means the pillars of Islam, the pillars of Iman and the pillars of the country.
