Sarawak chief minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem is seen as a statesman who was brave, steadfast and considered to be the leader of the people.

Political analyst Dr Jeniri Amir said the late Adenan received the support from the people of Sarawak due to his character which is well-liked by many and had helped the Barisan Nasional (BN) to maintain its win in the past state election in May last year.

“We have to remember, during the past elections, his popularity exceeded 85 percent.

“That was a very high percentage and it was due to his character and steps (taken) which were close to the people’s aspirations,” said Dr Jeniri.

He added, Adenan tried to solve problems in a pragmatic way.

Meanwhile, Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof shared his experiences working with Adenan.

“He was a straightforward person, he did not talk much, he just wanted excellent results.

“If you do not know him, he seemed unfriendly, but in reality he had a big heart and delicate soul. He listened and did things that benefited us. He focused in solving the problems of the people,” said Fadillah.

Fadillah who is Member of Parliament for Petra Jaya said the late Adenan often went on the ground and listened to the plight of the people.

“This was proven within a short time. Even though he has health issues, he still continued to attend programs.

“He did not only attend to his people in formal events, but sometimes at coffee shops all by himself to find out about the people's problems. He will go back, think, and tried to solve it," said Fadillah.
