Datuk Mah Siew Keong, the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election, has hit out at those making personal attacks on the candidates.

The by-election campaign was not the platform for personal attacks against both the BN and DAP candidates, he told reporters after talking to a group of people performing the "Tai Chi" exercise at the Jalan Speedy field here today.

"Do not make baseless accusations against me or Dyana (Sofya Mohd Daud, the DAP candidate)," said the Gerakan president.

He said the by-election was a contest between two political parties with varying principles and ideology, not between him and Dyana Sofya.

Mah said he had received much information about Dyana Sofya and people had been hurling baseless criticism against him, but added that the focus should be on what the parties could do for the people.

Mah said the constituents he had met so far had raised issues pertaining to upgrading of roads, cleaning of drains and sports facilities.

"The provision of these facilities was disrupted after the DAP won the seat (in the 2008 and 2013 general elections). We (BN) want to resume the development planned for the constituency (prior to 2008)," he said.

Mah had held the Teluk Intan seat for two terms from 1999.

The by-election is being held following the death of the MP, Seah Leong Peng, 48, of the DAP, on May 1. Early voting is on May 27 and polling, on May 31.
