Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has denied that the process of referring the disciplinary cases of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir to the UMNO Supreme Council, violated the party constitution.
The UMNO secretary-general said Muhyiddin was not given a show cause letter or being asked to defend himself as his case wasn't processed by the Disciplinary Board.
"Usually for ordinary members, they will be called up to defend themselves and they have to testify within two weeks.
"But for these cases, the Disciplinary Board cannot proceed with the process, and had it sent back as these were high-profile cases," he said after launching the Semarak Komuniti 1Malaysia programme, here, Saturday.
Tengku Adnan said, as the party's secretary-general, he had to put forward to the Supreme Council what was written to him by the Disciplinary Board.
He said, the same goes when Muhyiddin was suspended from being deputy president on February 26.
According to Tengku Adnan, the Supreme Council had the right to carry out its responsibilities as the party's top decision-making body, and on other matters not stipulated in the party's code of ethics and constitution.
He also informed that the Supreme Council will be held this Monday (May 23, 2016).
Commenting on whether the Supreme Council would make a decision on Muhyiddin and Mukhriz at its meeting, he said as the secretary-general, he can only bring this matter up to them.
"Whether it will be decided in this meeting or not, I don't know," he said, adding that it was up to the council to decide.
