Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today announced that he is partnering with Opposition leaders to form a new coalition.
The new coalition will feature DAP, PKR, Parti Amanah Negara, and a soon-to-be formed political party, he said.
Tun Dr Mahathir said the new coalition will operate as a single entity against Barisan Nasional.
Although the coalition has not decided on a name, he said it will start working towards winning the 14th general election.
Meanwhile, Communications and Multimedia Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said many new parties and new coalitions have been formed since 1951.
“Some have survived till today while many more have disappeared along the way. A party or even a coalition is merely a vehicle or a means to an end.
“What is more important is what they hope to achieve and how they hope to achieve it. The list of parties and coalitions that have come and gone is so long,” said Datuk Seri Salleh in his blog today.
He said it takes more than forming parties and coalitions to win elections.
“We shall see what this new party that is going to be formed and the new coalition has to offer Malaysia. Sometimes voters prefer the tried and tested rather than the unknown and uncharted,” he said.
