The UMNO Pekan Division has criticised Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as lacking principle and was willing to conspire with the opposition to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Its deputy head, Datuk Abu Bakar Harun said stern action must be taken against leaders who conspired with the opposition by signing the Citizens' Declaration or 'Deklarasi Rakyat' besides imposing disciplinary action on party members involved in the move.
He added that the stern action was among the resolutions reached unanimously by the UMNO Pekan division in expressing their loyalty and support to Najib, who is also Pekan MP.
"We urge the UMNO Supreme Council's (MT) Disciplinary Committee to expel Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir for the action which went against the UMNO principles by hiding behind the 'Deklarasi Rakyat'.
"In addition, all government posts given to Tun Dr Mahathir can also be removed following his action," he said at the press conference which was also attended by the Pekan UMNO leadership at the Pekan UMNO Building, here today.
Abu Bakar said that as a party member, they must feel slighted, sad and angry over the action by Dr Mahathir and the UMNO leaders who conspired with the opposition.
"The group of 'political desperados' led by Dr Mahathir who had declared that he had left UMNO, and several leaders who are still together with the party are found to have signed the 'Deklarasi Rakyat' together with the opposition leaders.
"Such action is not only shameful but is also without principle, reckless and can bring down their dignity especially as they are UMNO leaders who strongly criticised the opposition," he said.
Last Friday, Dr Mahathir led a group of more than 50 people including Muhyiddin, Mukhriz, former MCA president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali in signing the 'Deklarasi Rakyat' supporting the move to topple Najib.
