The legal suit against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak filed by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was just a continuation of a political agenda to bring down the prime minister, said UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
"As far as the party and the government are concerned, we are completely in support of the Prime Minister and we view it (the legal suit) as an extension of the political agenda to bring down the Prime Minister," Khairy told reporters at the 'Dyslexia Awareness Through Sukaneka' Programme at Padang Kelab Kilat TNB, here today.
On Wednesday (March 23) former prime minister Dr Mahathir, former Batu Kawan UMNO division vice-chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan, and former Langkawi UMNO member Anina Saadudin sued Najib in connection with alleged wrongdoing involving the 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
Meanwhile, Khairy, who is also the Youth and Sports Minister, said the Cabinet Meeting yesterday (March 25) was also briefed on the case of his ministry's official involved in the misappropriation of the ministry's funds amounting to RM107 million.
He said he had informed the Cabinet about the case which was being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Comission (MACC).
In addition, the investigation into the case was also being carried out by an independent team under the Chief Secretary to the Government and the Auditor-General, he said.
On another issue, Khairy said it was up to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to consider taking leave from office as authorities investigate his purchase of a bungalow.
"I think the call has been made by many quarters and it is up to him," he said.
The purchase of the bungalow in Jalan Pinhorn in Penang by Lim for RM2.8 million raised a controversy when the Member of Parliament for Tasek Gelugor Datuk Shabudin Yahaya raised the matter at the Dewan Rakyat sitting and claimed that the price was below the market value.
