UMNO has called for the setting up of a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to probe alleged wrongdoings and mismanagement by Pakatan Harapan (PH) against the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said the demand needed to be given due consideration in the interest of fulfilling the aspirations of the people and safeguarding the interests of religion and country.
Among other demands, said the Bagan Datuk MP, the government needed to set up a RCI to investigate allegations of misappropriation against the previous management of Tabung Haji.
Ahmad Zahid said UMNO also called on the government to re-evaluate the sale of strategic assets that belonged to the country and agencies like Tabung Haji, Khazanah Nasional, The Armed Forces Fund Board and all government-linked companies (GLC).
"In order to fulfil the principle of rule of law, Umno calls on the government to re-open the cases stopped by the Pakatan government, including the Penang undersea tunnel project, and three tolls involving the DAP leadership worth some RM6.3bil," he said in a statement after chairing the UMNO Supreme Council meeting at Menara Dato Onn here today.
The Umno president also called on the government to expedite the probe and prosecution of the individuals linked to the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.
He also called for the termination of the previous PH government's agenda, including the setting up of an Independent Police Complaints of Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), which he believed would curb the effectiveness of the police force.
He also wanted Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to freeze the decision to lay-off civil servants on contract status, policies to reduce the number of civil servants and to review any related policies in order to protect the welfare of civil servants.
