KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO has denied news reports that its Supreme Council Working Committee (MKT) meeting has decided to reject cooperation between Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the next general election.
The UMNO Strategic Communications Department in a statement on Sunday said that the media reports on the rejection of the cooperation was incorrect and the UMNO headquarters took the matter seriously.
"The UMNO Headquarters is looking seriously into the report that went viral, related to the decision of the Supreme Working Council meeting two days ago (Friday).
"Any statement on the MKT decision is incorrect unless it comes from the official statement of the party or its leadership," the statement said.
The statement also said that any reports, speculations and other media statements should not be referred to as the party's official stand or statement.
On Friday, UMNO held its Supreme Working Council Meeting at the Institut Latihan Memperkasakan Ummah (ILMU) in Janda Baik, Bentong, Pahang.
However, until now, the media has not been informed of any decision made by UMNO regarding the party's relationship with Bersatu.
