UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has asked party leaders to help explain issues to grassroots members and not confuse them.
Ahmad Zahid, who is the deputy prime minister and home minister, said it could be possible that some leaders were creating confusion on purpose to undermine the support of members for the top leadership.
"As leaders, we have to play our role. If something is vague, we have to explain. If there is confusion, we should not cause more confusion.
"We have to provide an explanation. Only then will our party, our organisation, our society become more matured," he said when opening the Lenggong UMNO Division delegates meeting at the Mara Junior Science College here Saturday.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, who is Perak UMNO Liaison Committee chairman, and Lenggong UMNO Division chief Datuk Shaarani Mohammad were also present.
Ahmad Zahid said besides adversaries on the outside, UMNO was also facing the enemy within.
As such, he said, it was the responsibility of leaders to rectify the situation from within the party.
"The organisation should surge ahead, the party should move on. We will face the general election soon.
"The enemy outside will attack us. Sometimes, the enemy within will also do so more intensely.
"Our problem is not with the enemy outside, it is with the enemy within. Confusion is created on purpose to divide us from within," he said.
