UMNO members were told again today to not easily believe postings on the social media, especially those posted by the opposition, without first verifying the authenticity of the reports.
Pahang UMNO liaison chairman Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said the reason being that most of the reports in the social media were sensational news aimed at creating anxiety among the people to make them blame the government.
"The Malays are indeed fond of false and unverified news that we don't see the need to verify them (news) first," he said when launching the Cameron Highland UMNO's 14th general election machinery here yesterday.
As such, he said, it was the role of UMNO leaders and members to obtain accurate information before disseminating it to the public and also to counter the false allegations hurled by the opposition.
He also advised UMNO leaders at the grassroot level to play a more proactive role by going to the ground to help the poor.
