Umno is ready for a state election if the Selangor government sees it as a solution to resolve the crisis over the appointment of a new menteri besar to replace Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
Its information chief, Datuk Ahmad Maslan said Umno is monitoring the political development in Selangor as the crisis has indirect impact on the nation, especially from the economic standpoint.
"Selangor is an important state as it is an economic centre of development undertaken by the government.
"Political stability is a major consideration for businessmen planning to invest in the state," he told reporters after visiting the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Processing Centre at the Royal Malaysian Customs Department Complex, here today.
Ahmad, who is also Deputy Minister of Finance, said the crisis arose because there was pressure from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to replace Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid with another party leader.
