UMNO to review ties with Workers Party of North Korea - Tengku Adnan

UMNO is to review its collaboration with the Workers Party of North Korea following the latest development in bilateral ties between Malaysia and North Korea in the wake of the murder of North Korean Kim Jong Nam in Malaysia.

UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the matter would be raised at the next meeting of the UMNO Supreme Council.

"We will review the collaboration," he said when met after launching an extension building of Surau Al-Iman in Precinct 9 here today.

Tengku Adnan was asked to comment on the status of the memorandum of understanding between UMNO and WPK which was signed at the 2014 UMNO General Assembly 2014.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had instructed the Foreign Ministry to review diplomatic ties with North Korea following allegedly rude statements made by North Korean Ambassador Kang Chol in relation to the Jong Nam murder.

Jong Nam, the estranged older half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, was at the KL International Airport 2 (klia2) on Feb 13 to board a flight to Macau when two women suddenly appeared before him and allegedly wiped his face with the palms of their hands which contained what was later identified as the VX nerve agent.

Jong Nam reportedly sought help at a customer service counter at the airport and was rushed to the Putrajaya Hospital but died on the way. He had come to Malaysia on Feb 6. -- BERNAMA
