UMNO's Sang Saka Bangsa flag run, involving more than 30,000 Umno members from all corners of the country, except Sarawak, held in conjunction with the party's 71st anniversary, ends at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium last night.
UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin together with 2,000 party members, national athletes and Sayang Puteri squad carried the flags around the stadium.
Khairy then handed over the flag to Prime Minister and UMNO President Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak at the main stage at the party's mammoth gathering.
More than 150,000 UMNO members dressed in red thronged the stadium, witnessed the culmination of the flag run that began simultaneously on May 1 at the four corners of the country.
It started in the northern zone in Kangar, Perlis, the southern zone in Johor Bahru, the eastern zone in Kota Bharu, Kelantan and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah before it was flown across the South China Sea to the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Before the run in the evening, the Sang Saka Bangsa flags were handed over to Bandar Tun Razak UMNO representatives on Wednesday.
The flag handing over was a part of the UMNO 71st anniversary celebration, in addition to religious talks, the launch of the construction of the 70-storey PWTC KL tower that will be UMNO new headquarters and the 'Anugerah Tokoh Melayu Terbilang' award presentation to three outstanding recipients. - Bernama
