The future and survival of UMNO and its politicians are largely dependent on the Malay NGOs -- which has continuously lent its support to the largest Malay party, said Perkasa president Datuk Ibrahim Ali.
In his typical fashion, Ibrahim cautioned leaders of UMNO -- which has been in existence for seven decades -- during the National Unity Convention held here, today.
The event also saw Ibrahim tabling the National Unity Convention memorandum which will be delivered to Putrajaya and Malay rulers, among others.
Among the proposals contained in the memorandum zoom in on the political security of Barisan Nasional (BN) based on UMNO, which is now seen as being eroded and threatened.
"It suits that our convention was held a few days before the UMNO General Assembly," said Ibrahim who hopes that the voices of various NGOs will get the attention of UMNO and its president, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Ibrahim, who chaired the committee preparing the convention’s memorandum, also hopes it (the memorandum) can be adopted by the government to change the basic framework of unity.
The memorandum comprises several content including the sanctity of Islam and the sovereignty of the institution of the Malay Rulers, the memorandum also highlighted the advantages of the Federal Constitution which is now being disputed by some people as well as laws that guarantee public order and national security such as the Sedition Act 1948.
It also contains a proposal on the status of the natives -- Malays and Islam enshrined in the Federal Constitution, Malays' economic security and education issues.
"All the scenarios mentioned should be dealt with firmly. We will submit the memorandum and proposals to Yang di-Pertuan Agong as well as the Malay rulers and the government.
"We ask and urge them to give their full attention regarding the needs of the Bumiputeras, Malays and Islam," Ibrahim concluded.
