The UMNO Supreme Council today announced its decision to sack its deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir.
UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the decision was made because the two leaders had shared the same stage with the Opposition and attacked the party's leadership.
"The UMNO Supreme Council today has made a unanimous decision to sack Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir for violating breaching party discipline.
As for party's vice president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal, Najib said his membership has been suspended until they get a report from the UMNO disciplinary board.
"The disciplinary board has yet to submit a report to the party's management and Supreme Council for a decision," he said.
Muhyiddin and Mukhriz were among the 18 individuals who made speeches in the gathering by a group of people, demanding for Najib's resignation.
Shafie who has also been critical of the party, drew the ire of various quarters.
