Annuar Musa has denied allegations that UMNO had decided to open a secret bank account.
KUALA LUMPUR:Former Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa has denied allegations that UMNO had decided to open a secret bank account.
He explained that during his more than 20 years as a member of the party's Supreme Council, no such decision had ever been made.
"UMNO's confidential account? BERSATU leaders or other parties should not issue accusatory statements.
"This does not lead to any good," he said via his Twitter account, on Friday.
The media on Wednesday reported that UMNO had an unaudited secret account to receive political contributions since 1988.
The matter was revealed when the prosecution denied the allegation that the RM114.16 million cash demanded by former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and UMNO in the 1MDB-related deprivation suit against Obyu Holdings belonged to the party.
In the written argument of Deputy Public Prosecutor, Faten Hadni Khairuddin, the prosecution claimed it was because some UMNO leaders themselves denied that they knew about the fund.
Following the revelation, Member of the Supreme Leadership Council of the Parti Pribumi Bersatu (Bersatu), Dr Muhammad Faiz Na'aman described the matter as a clear betrayal of the party's constitution and its members.
He said that undeclared bank accounts (and unaudited political contributions) if proven to be directly related to the party and the UMNO leadership, is also a serious violation under the rules of the Department of Registration of Societies Malaysia (RoS).
