Recent political developments which allegedly saw a ganging up of certain UMNO leaders and the opposition through a 'People's Declaration' would be brought to the attention of the party's supreme council.
However, UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek stressed that any decision on the issue must be made rationally and according to the rules.
"I believe this issue would be brought to the Supreme Council, which will study it from the aspect of constitution, rules and law based on precedents," he said after opening the Jelebu UMNO Conference 2016 here last night.
He was asked to comment on the alleged involvement of certain UMNO leaders with the opposition in signing the declaration which among others is seeking to remove Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as Prime Minister.
Najib was yesterday reported to have said that it was up to the party's supreme council and discipline committee to take action against party members who had collaborated with the opposition.
Ahmad Shabery said based on his meetings with grassroot leaders, the sentiment was that action should be taken against such leaders.
Earlier, Ahmad Shabery who is also Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister in his speech urged the party's machinery whether at grassroot or at the highest level to unite and regroup to strengthen UMNO.
