Amid rumours that the UMNO Supreme Council meeting today could be hot, the party's information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan believes that only the good will happen at the meeting.

He believes the meeting will proceed without any problem despite the attendance of Supreme Council members who were dropped from the new cabinet line-up.

"I am confident that all will attend, It's not a problem as (UMNO deputy president) Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, (vice-president) Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal and (Supreme Council member) Datuk Seri Hasan Malek still hold important positions in UMNO.

"We as the UMNO family, know how to solve our problems and I am confident that only good things will happen (at the meeting)," Ahmad told reporters after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the Economic Policy Leaders programme, on Tuesday.

It has been rumoured that disciplinary action would be taken against certain UMNO leaders including sacking from the party, which has been denied by a number of UMNO leaders including party vice-president, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.

Meanwhile, Ahmad said UMNO leaders must continue to be loyal and committed in strengthening the party as UMNO could only be destroyed from inside.

Therefore, he said, there was a need to strengthen UMNO internally by explaining to its members the current issues.

"Last week, I had gone to 17 UMNO divisions in seven states, namely Kedah, Johor, Melaka, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Selangor to explain to the leaders there on the 1MDB issue, the RM2.6 billion fund, ringgit slump, GST (Goods and Services Tax), the cabinet reshuffle and so on.

"This series of explanation will continue and perhaps other UMNO Supreme Council members will also be involved," he said.
