UMNO Youth is prepared to shoulder the duty and responsibility in moving the early phase of the National Transformation 2050 (NT50) discourse among the young people.
Its chief Khairy Jamaluddin said, although it was a heavy task from UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also Prime Minister, yet for him and UMNO Youth, it would be implemented in the best possible manner.
"I thank the President for mentioning the role of the movement and mine in his speech...f irst time mentioned in a policy speech.
"I am truly overwhelmed at the trust handed to me. This is a very heavy duty because it is a question of the future of the nation and I promise the Prime Minister I will shoulder the task and trust to the best of my ability," he said.
Khairy, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, said this to reporters after a meeting with UMNO's overseas clubs in conjunction with the 2016 UMNO General Assembly.
TN50, which was mooted by the Prime Minister, is a futuristic policy to map the direction of the country in the next 50 years after 2020.
The move to get the input of the young generations of various races would be done via national discourses such as decided by the Cabinet and would be handled by the Youth and Sports Ministry.
Commenting on his meeting with the members of the club, Khairy said, among others, it discussed the role and involvement of the club's members in TN50.
Asked on the president's policy speech, Khairy was of the opinion it was a shot in the arm for party members focusing on preparaing for the 14th General Election (GE-14) which is looming close.
"The president's speech gave an extraordinary stimulus to the members of the party compared to last year where we faced a situation of a wolf in sheep's clothing. But today, I am confident 100 per cent of the delegates and party members are with the president.
"We are no longer (it can be said) disturbed and shackled by internal problems. We are a united party, there is unity, tight integration and prepared to shoulder the responsibility of helping the president to face GE-14," he said.
Broaching on the wala' principle stressed by Najib, Khairy said it must not only be fostered in the movement, but must be embedded in the UMNO institution at all levels.
