KUALA LUMPUR: The failure of UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) to lead the government in the 14th General Election (GE14) is not an excuse for some party grassroots to lose their manners and forsake the presidential institution, said Datuk Hasan Abd Rahman.
The Jasin UMNO Division head said he was disappointed that those grassroot members were influenced with the incitement to divide the party by calling on UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to resign.
He said, the act is contrary to the culture of the Malays as the act is uncivilised and better called as traitors in the party.
"Such cheap political polemics will only destroy our own system and party. Cultivate confidence and support the institutions of the president, deputy and the ranks of MKT (Supreme Working Council) of UMNO Malaysia.
"Please follow our Malay culture. Differences of opinion are normal, every mistake is not necessarily an offence but do not betray the holy struggle," he said in a statement today.
Hasan called upon the party's grassroots to be kind to the people by restoring confidence in UMNO.
He added that focus should also be given to efforts to revive the country's economy and the people as a result of being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Differences of opinion are normal, every mistake is not necessarily an offence but do not betray the holy struggle.
"We all need to have the strength to face various challenges, this is because every weakness will affect psychology. Therefore, UMNO Jasin is consistent in fighting for and championing the people's issues then now and forever," he added.
He said all members need to use UMNO's support and mandate in the 2021 Budget for all parties to benefit.
