Members of the Wanita wing of the People's Progressive Party (PPP) have been urged to use the social media platform aggressively to counter various slanders against the government.
PPP Wanita chief Helen Mening Sagang said women should keep themselves abreast with current issues as such information could be important weapons to fight the opposition which is using the social media to incite hatred against the government.
"In this regard, PPP wanita members should harness their energy to ensure the success of government efforts by disseminating verified news and information to ensure we achieve the developed nation status.
"We need to be aware that the opposition is using false allegations and slanders as its weapon to criticize the government... this needed to be quickly challenged and PPP members have a role to assist the government in the social media war," she said.
She was speaking at the 2015 PPP Wanita Convention which was officiated by Barisan Nasional (BN) Wanita chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil here Sunday.
Also present was PPP senior vice president Datuk Seri Maglin Dennis D'Cruz.
Apart from using the social media, women with higher education had the potentials to hold high positions in various sectors to contribute to the nation's economy, said Helen.
Women could hold positions in top management based on their merit and capability, as the question of gender is not an issue in Malaysia because the country still lacked skilled manpower from women, she said.
Meanwhile, Shahrizat in her spech said every political party faces problems including the opposition which is now seriously hurt as a splinter group has emerged due to prolonged internal strifes.
"BN has strong cooperation and ties among its component parties such as PPP. I see PPP Wanita members are active in various community perogrammes nationwide," she said.
The contributions of PPP Wanita members had helped to fight various slanders of the opposition with verified news to the people, Shahrizat said
