The three UMNO wings, namely, the Wanita, Youth and Puteri movements today resonantly pledge their undivided support and loyalty to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak to continue heading the party and government.
The heads of the three party wings stressed on the matter in their policy speeches at their respective assemblies at the Putra World Trade Centre here.
Wanita UMNO chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abd Jalil said the movement was impressed at the preseverence and determination of Najib in facing numerous slanders, but could still stand as a highly spirited leader.
Wanita UMNO, she said realised that to boost the status of the nation from a developing to a developed nation, was more difficult from boosting a backward nation to a developing one because the effort to transform an old mould was not an easy task.
"But still, Najib is still steadfastly standing to correct the mould's mistakes one by one and for Wanita, this is a struggle of the race. Wanita will stay loyal to the President even if (he is) slandered a hundred times, a thousand times, only to rise and advance," she said.
UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, on his part, said Najib was not only open and accepted the views of the young but also backed most of the ideas of the movement which were turned into government policies and programmes.
"This is among the reasons why the movement persists in supporting him to continue heading the party and government - a leader who always listens to the voice of the young, a leader who has delivered much for the aspiration of the young," he said.
The Youth and Sports Minister also drew the attention of the 990 delegates present by screening several video clips on the initiatives for the young championed by the movement, which had been implemented by the government, including house ownership, job opportunities and minumum wages.
Puteri UMNO chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin stressed that the loyalty of the movement to the leadership, which symbolised the mainstay of the party, was to ensure UMNO's strength and stability.
She said loyalty is one of the qualities of a champion's mentality which must be possessed by all party members, specifically when the party was drawing up its activity to win at the 14th General Election. -- BERNAMA
